“For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” — Matthew 12:34
We are known by our fruits. Scripture reminds us that the evidence of a person’s heart is revealed not only through their actions but also through their words. What we say reflects the soil of our hearts—the values, beliefs, and priorities that shape who we are within.
When we listen closely to others, we begin to understand where their hearts are rooted. This is why the Word encourages us to be “quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry” (James 1:19). Listening with discernment allows us to perceive whether the fruit in someone’s life is nourished by the Spirit or by the world.
It is important to be mindful of the voices that surround us. The people we walk with can either draw us closer to Christ or lead us away from His presence. Choose to stay planted in good soil—where faith grows, truth is spoken, and hearts are aligned with the Word of God.
Reflection:
What do your words reveal about the condition of your heart? Are the people you listen to producing fruit that honors God?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, search my heart and purify my words. Help me to listen with discernment and to stay rooted in Your truth. Surround me with people whose lives bear good fruit and draw me nearer to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
