Devotional: Learning to Wait and Let God Lead

By

Scripture:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” ~Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV)~

Reflection:

There comes a point in our walk with God when we realize that striving, chasing, and rushing ahead of Him only leads us in circles. When I move without His direction, I often end up spiritually tired, frustrated, and stuck.

God never intended for us to run ahead of Him. He asks us to trust Him fully—to surrender not just our actions, but our desires. When we place our plans in His hands, we make room for the life He intended for us to live.

Surrender isn’t easy. It requires humility and honesty—admitting that our way hasn’t worked and trusting that God’s way is better, even when we don’t understand it. Yet surrender is freeing. When we release control, we allow God to guide our steps with purpose.

Waiting on God doesn’t mean doing nothing. It means trusting Him with everything, believing His timing is perfect and that what’s meant for us will come—not because we chased it, but because we followed Him.

Prayer:

Father God,
I surrender my plans, my desires, and my need to control outcomes. Forgive me for the times I’ve run ahead of You instead of waiting for Your direction. Teach me to trust You with my whole heart, even when I don’t understand the process. Lead my life according to Your will. I know Your way is better. I choose You today. Amen.

Journal Prompt:

Is there an area in your life where you’ve been rushing ahead of God? What would it look like to fully surrender it and trust His timing?
