Trusting God When the Path Is Hidden
Shown the Promise, Not the Process
There have been many times in my life when God has given me a glimpse of where He was taking me, but He never revealed how I would get there.
He showed me the promise.
He showed me the destination.
He showed me enough to stir my faith and awaken hope within me.
What He didn’t show me was the process.
He didn’t show me the tears that would be cried in private. He didn’t show me the nights when I would question whether I heard Him correctly. He didn’t show me the opposition that would arise when I chose obedience. He didn’t show me the spiritual warfare that often accompanies walking toward God’s purpose.
For a long time, I wondered why.
Why would God reveal the ending but hide the details?
As I have grown in my walk with Him, I believe part of the answer is simple: if we knew everything beforehand, many of us would never take the first step.
If God had shown Abraham every challenge that would come before becoming the father of many nations, would he have left everything familiar behind?
If God had shown Moses every complaint, every delay, and every obstacle he would face while leading Israel, would he have felt qualified to go?
If God had shown us every disappointment, every setback, every season of waiting, and every battle attached to the promise, fear might convince us to stay where we are.
Yet God, in His wisdom, often reveals just enough.
Enough to invite us.
Enough to call us.
Enough to require faith.
The truth is, God never intended for us to walk by complete understanding. Scripture reminds us that “we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7). Faith is not knowing every detail before taking action. Faith is trusting God’s character when the details remain hidden.
Looking back over my own life, I can see moments where God’s silence regarding the process was actually His protection. Had I known the difficulty ahead, I might have become overwhelmed before the journey even began. Instead, He strengthened me one step at a time.
When I encountered challenges, He supplied grace.
When I faced opposition, He supplied strength.
When I felt lost, He supplied direction.
When I wanted to quit, He reminded me of the promise.
The process wasn’t hidden because God was withholding something good from me. It was hidden because He wanted me to depend on Him daily.
Dependence is uncomfortable for our flesh because we like certainty. We want maps, timelines, guarantees, and explanations. But God often offers something greater than certainty—His presence.
He doesn’t always tell us what is around the corner, but He promises to walk with us through it.
He doesn’t always reveal the next ten steps, but He faithfully illuminates the next one.
He doesn’t always explain the delays, but He never abandons us in them.
Perhaps you are in a season where God has shown you a promise, but the path seems unclear. Maybe you know what He has spoken over your life, but you cannot see how it will happen.
Take heart.
The hidden process does not mean God has forgotten the promise.
The delays do not mean He has changed His mind.
The opposition does not mean you are headed in the wrong direction.
Sometimes the very resistance you encounter is evidence that you are moving toward the thing God showed you.
Keep walking.
Keep trusting.
Keep obeying.
Trust what God has revealed more than what He has withheld.
Because if God was faithful enough to show you the promise, He will also be faithful enough to guide you through the process.
And one day, when you arrive where He was leading you all along, you will understand that every step, every challenge, every lesson, and every act of obedience was preparing you for the promise He showed you from the beginning.
