For Such a Time as This: Don’t Forget the Assignment Attached to Your Position

By

God doesn’t just place us in positions for our comfort; sometimes He places us there because someone else’s breakthrough is connected to our obedience.

~Esther‬ ‭4‬:‭14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬~

“For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?””

We are all given assignments by God. Some assignments may seem small, while others may require us to step outside our comfort zones, face our fears, and trust God in ways we never imagined. But one thing we must understand is that being called to do something does not mean we will always feel equipped, prepared, or even willing to do it.

When I read the story of Esther, I am reminded of how important it is to recognize the position God has placed us in. Esther was a queen, but her position came with a responsibility that was much greater than wearing a crown or living in a palace. Her people were in danger, and she was in a position where she could make a difference.

However, there was one problem: fear.

Approaching the king without being summoned could cost Esther her life. She had every reason to be afraid. But Mordecai reminded her that perhaps she had been brought into the kingdom for that very moment. What if her position wasn’t simply about her comfort, her title, or her personal accomplishments? What if God had positioned her to be the answer to someone else’s prayer?

That makes me think about how many times we allow fear, doubt, insecurity, or even our own comfort to keep us from fulfilling what God has placed on our hearts.

Sometimes we are waiting for God to send someone else, when He has already placed us in the position to make a difference. Sometimes we are asking God to show us our purpose, while overlooking the opportunities He has already placed right in front of us.

Mordecai’s words also remind us that God’s plans are bigger than any one individual. Deliverance would come, but Esther had an opportunity to be part of what God was doing. Her obedience mattered.

We have to be careful not to become so comfortable in the positions God has allowed us to occupy that we forget the responsibility that comes with them. Your position may be your workplace, your home, your church, your community, or even a relationship. Wherever God has placed you, there may be someone who needs what He has equipped you to give.

I want you to ask yourself this question: Has God placed you in that position for such a time as this?

Are you allowing fear to keep you silent? Are you holding back because you are afraid of what others might think? Are you waiting until you feel ready before taking the step God is calling you to take?

Remember, obedience doesn’t always come without fear. Sometimes obedience means moving forward while trusting God to handle what you cannot control.

Don’t become so afraid of the assignment that you miss the opportunity to fulfill it.

You may be in that position for a reason. Don’t overlook what God may be calling you to do in this season.

Reflection Questions

  1. What position has God placed me in during this season of my life?
  2. Am I allowing fear, doubt, or comfort to interfere with my obedience?
  3. Who might benefit from my willingness to walk in the assignment God has given me?

A Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for reminding me that my life has purpose and that the positions You allow me to occupy are not always just about me. Help me recognize the assignments You have placed before me. When fear tries to silence me, give me the courage to speak. When doubt makes me question my abilities, remind me that You are the One who equips those You call.

Father, help me not become so comfortable that I overlook the opportunities to serve, encourage, love, and make a difference in the lives of others. Give me a willing heart and the courage to be obedient, even when the assignment is uncomfortable.

I don’t want to miss what You have called me to do because I was too afraid to take the step. Let my life be a reflection of Your goodness, and help me walk boldly in the purpose You have given me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
